Guangxi Zhuang
Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, which is called “Gui” for short, is situated in the southern part of China. Guangxi is in a predominant location, which adjoins the Northern Bay to the south, faces Southeast Asia, neighbors Vietnam to the southwest and Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao to the east, connects Central China to the north, and backs onto the southwestern part of China.
I. Development Overview of the Social Economy in Guangxi Province
1.The famous maritime Silk Road is located here. Earlier in the Qin and Han Dynasties, in addition to the notable onland silk road, there was a “maritime silk road” starting from current Hepu, Beihai.
2.Coastal advantages: the coastline in Guangxi is 1,595 kilometers; 21 ports including 5 ports suitable for 10,000 tons of berth capacity have been established, and the final development potential can reach at least 200million tons of throughput capacity every year.
3.Hub advantages: Guangxi is located in the meeting point among the eastern, middle and western zones in China and is a joint of the South China economic cycle, southwest economic cycle and ASEAN economic cycle.
II. Development Overview of the SMEs in Guangxi Province: By the end of 2004, there were 49,600 legal entities in Guangxi, which included 23,500 private enterprises. The individual proprietors were mainly distributed in the industry (203,100, making up 13.86%), traffic transportation (287,900, making up 19.64%), wholesale and retailing (710,900, making up 48.50%), accommodation and catering (84,200, making up 5.75%), and residential service and other services (86,200, making up 5.88%). The individual proprietors in these five sectors accounted for 93.63% of the total individual proprietors.
