Chongqing
Chongqing, which is called “Yu” for short, is one of the four municipalities directly under the Central Government. It is built against the mountains and therefore called “Mountain City”, and in the spring and winter, because slight rain and heavy fog often occurs, it is also called “Fog City”.
I. Development Overview of the Social Economy in Chongqing:
1.It is an important economic growth pole and one of the largest six industrial bases in China. It’s comprehensive economic strengths are leading in West China.
2.It is an important financial center in West China and possesses a functional complementary financial organization system comprising the banks, securities exchanges, insurance companies and various financial service agencies. In respect of the quantity of the financial institutions, Chongqing ranks first place in West China.
3.Important industry bases. It is an important machinery industry base, comprehensive chemical base, machine industry base and instrumentation base at home.
II. Development Overview of the SMEs in Chongqing: The non-public economy, as the main force that drives the economy to develop, the important opening-up window, an important channel that increases employment, and an important source that can increase people’s revenues, have become an irreplaceable force that drives coordinating development of the urban and rural areas. It was preliminarily estimated that, in 2008, the non-public economic entities in Chongqing created an increase of RMB290,510,000,000, accounting for 57% of the GDP in Chongqing, an increase of 1.9% over 2007 and a rise of 18.2% on a year-on-year basis. The growth rate of the non-public economy is 3.9% higher than that of the GDP in Chongqing. Obviously, the non-public economy has become the new force that drives the economic growth in Chongqing.
