Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region
Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, called “Xin” for short, is located in the northwestern border region of China, covers 1/6 of the total land area of China and is therefore the largest provincial administrative region in respect of the land area covered in China.
I. Development Overview of the Social Economy in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region
1.Complete mineral categories and large mineral reserves contribute a wide exploitation prospect. 138 kinds of minerals have been discovered so far, which include 9 kinds of minerals with their reserves ranking No.1 in China and 32 kinds ranking first in the northwestern region in China.
2.The comprehensive agricultural productivity is improved year by year, and now some dominant industries like cotton, grain, sugar beet, forestry & fruit and livestock farming have been formed.
3.The industrial economy grows rapidly and forms a modern industry system with complete sectors and certain scale that focuses on development of the mineral resources and deep processing of agricultural and sideline products as the dominant forces and contains oil & natural gas, petrochemicals, iron, coal, power, textile, building materials, light industry, etc.
II. Development Overview of the SMEs in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region: By 2008, the SMEs in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region accounted for 90% of the enterprises in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Now, approximately 500,000 SMEs have been registered and over 2,000,000 persons are involved. In addition to some state-owned enterprises, some joint-equity enterprises, share cooperation enterprises, some enterprises invested in by the businessmen from foreign countries and Hong Kong,Macao and Taiwan in China are established here, and the individual and private enterprises, collective enterprises and town enterprises are the major economic development forces. They are engaged in traditional processing industry, wholesale and retailing, catering and social services, as well as emerging hi-tech industry and tourist industry.
Learn from experience and make more explorations, upgrade CSMEF to CISMEF, better promote the development and cooperation between ChineseSMEs and those of other countries.
