Tianjin
Tianjin, which is called “Jin” for short, is situated in the northeast part of the North China Plain and the west bank of the Bohai Sea. It is located at the meeting point of the five branches of the Hai River. It is the junction of Beijing-Shenyang and Tianjin-Shanghai trunks and Tianjin-Jixian Expressway. Furthermore, Tianjin Port is the portal of Beijing and Tianjin. Tianjin is the largest water and land transportation hub and economic center in North China.
I. Development Overview of the Social Economy in Tianjin
1.In respect of the financial trade, Tianjin is the main sea gate of Beijing and even the whole three-north regions (i.e. Northeast China, Northwest China and North China), and is the traditional economic and financial center in North China, and one of the ten largest ports in the world, as well as an industrial and commercial metropolis.
2.In respect of industry, Tianjin has become a famous industrial city from later the Qing Dynasty. It was the most important industrial city in the Far East Region in the beginning of 20th century. Now, with regards to the industrial output, Tianjin ranks second in China, behind Shanghai.
3.In respect of the port, Tianjin Port is the most important international port in North China, and it is also the port with the shortest distance between the middle part of the Bohai Sea and North China and the hinterland of Northwest China.
II. Development Overview of the SMEs in Tianjin: By 2005, there were 113,072 SMEs, including 5875 industrial SMEs, accounting for 99.1% of the industrial enterprises in Tianjin, and 909,000 employees, accounting for 77.5% of those employed by the industrial enterprises in Tianjin. They contributed sales volume amounting to RMB370,420,000,000, profit taxes totaling RMB42,790,000,000, and accounting for 67.1% of those of the industrial enterprises in Tianjin, with the main increment indicators higher than the mean level in Tianjin.
