Shandong
Shandong, called “Lu” for short, is a province located along the eastern coastal area in China, in the lower reaches of the Yellow River, facing Bohai Sea and Yellow Sea to the east, on the north of Hebei Province, having a common boundary with He’nan Province to the west, and neighboring Jiangsu and Anhui to the south.
I. Development Overview of Social Economy in Shandong Province
1.Convenient traffic. Shandong is located at the main roads linking the south and the north in the eastern part of the Mainland China. Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal runs through Luxi Plain from southeast to northwest in Shandong Province, and the Yellow River runs obliquely through Luxinbei Plain from southwest to northeast.
2.The regional economy comprising of such two economic cycles as the city cluster in Shandong Peninsula and provincial capital city cluster is developed coordinately. “One Body with Two Wings” development strategy is successfully being carried out.
3.Oceanic economy is rapidly developed. Oceanic fishery, sea travel and offshore oil & gas, etc. are growing steadily
II. Development Overview of the SMEs in Shandong Province: By 2004, the non-public economy was rapidly developed, and realized an increase amounting to RMB RMB501,520,000,000, accounting for 40.3% of the GDP in Shandong Province, having an increase of 3.8% over 2003. The private economy entities realized an increase of RMB375,350,000,000, taking 30.2% of the GPD in Shandong Province, increasing by 1.1%. 1,586,000 small private businesses were registered in Shandong Province, an increase of 8.6%; and the employees engaged in small private businesses reached up to 3,471,000, an increase of 16.5%. There were 229,000 urban and rural private enterprises, an increase of 29.9%, which employed 3,665,000 employees, an increase of 44.6%.
