Deputy Minister of MITI of Malaysia Dr. Ong Kian Ming Leads Delegation to attend the 16th CISMEF
On June 24, 2019, the 16th China International Small and Medium Enterprises Fair (CISMEF) was held in Guangzhou. The fair was co-hosted by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the State Administration for Market Regulation, and the People’s Government of Guangdong Province, with United Nations Industrial Development Organization and Malaysia acting as guests of honor. Since the year 2019 marks the 45th anniversary of China-Malaysia diplomatic ties, the choosing of Malaysia as a guest of honor is of great significance, highlighting the close bilateral cooperation and exchanges in SMEs.
The Malaysian delegation for the fair was led by Dr. Ong Kian Ming, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI). Dr. Ong Kian Ming addressed a speech at the opening reception and delivered a speech at the China SME Summit. Attending the 16th CISMEF will greatly boost China-Malaysia economic exchanges, and is highly significant for closer bilateral ties, he noted. SMEs feature prominently in Malaysia’s economic development, with innovation capacity as their major competitive edge. Over the past 10 consecutive years, China has been the largest trade partner of Malaysia, maintaining solid trading relations. Malaysia will also renew its efforts in supporting China’s Belt and Road Initiative and advancing China-Malaysia relationship.
In Exhibition Hall 3.2, Area A of China Import and Export Complex, Malaysia set up 60 booths to showcase a wide range of “Made in Malaysia” products, such as food, beverage, health products, art ware, clothing, beauty products, and services. At this year’s fair, the Second Home Exhibition Zone of Malaysia was set up to show the country’s premium real estate investment programs, education, consulting, and other offerings, seeking to attract more foreign investment to Malaysia. In supporting the “Visit Malaysia Year 2020” and “Malaysia My Second Home Programme”, the country has expanded its E-visa regional center and simplified formalities for foreign tourists to apply for E-visa. Besides, a photo show for the “Visit Malaysia Year 2020” was offered, drawing a large number of audience to learn the cultural charm of Malaysia.
The successful hosting of the 16th CISMEF will further solidified the foundation of China-Malaysia relations and pave the way for the forthcoming “Malaysia-China Cultural Tourism Year” in 2020.
