Hosted by Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Commerce, State Administration for Industry and Commerce, General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, China Banking Regulatory Commission, as well as the People’s Government of Guangdong Province, the 6th CISMEF was held from Sept. 22nd to 25th, 2009 in Guangzhou. With an exhibition area of 120,000 square meters and 6,187 booths, this CISMEF attracted 3,935 SMEs from China and around the world to participate, and 250,000 visitors came to the fair.
Spain, as the co-host country, organized more than 200 companies and organizations to the fair. Their exhibition area was 10,000 square meters, covering ten industries, such as biotechnology, machine tools, spare parts and industrial equipment, information technology, agricultural product, energy and climate change and environment, tourism, franchising, engineering and construction and education. The participants came from many fields like construction, environmental protection, furniture, food, logistics, education, etc. Big-named companies like Telefonica, Banco Santander, BBVA, Indra, Endesa, CAF, Torres and Real Madrid were among the participants. Sebastian, then minister of Spanish Industry, Tourism and Trade, said that he was very pleased with the outcome of the fair and that nearly 80% of Spanish companies were “very satisfied” or “satisfied”. Sebastian, then minister of Spanish Industry, Tourism and Trade, led the government delegation of nearly 50 participants to the fair and signed with Li Yizhong, minister of Industry and Information Technology, the “Cooperation agreement on industry, communications and information technology between the Industry and Information Technology Ministry of the PRC and the Industry, Tourism and Trade Ministry of Spain”, as well as “Memorandum of Understanding for SMEs between the Industry and Information Technology Ministry of the PRC and the Industry, Tourism and Trade Ministry of Spain”.
With the theme of “Win-Win Cooperation of China and Spain”, the two counties held 46 activities together like China-Spain SME Summit, SME Financing and Investment Forum and project matchmaking, SME Development Seminar, Asia-Europe SME Cooperation and Development Seminar, etc.
In association with the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs of the Republic of Indonesia and United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation, the 10th CISMEF was hosted successfully in Guangzhou from September 25 to 28, 2013 by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Finance, State Administration for Industry & Commerce, General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, China Banking Regulatory Commission and People’s Government of Guangdong Province. Under the theme of “Strengthening Cooperation, Enlarging Exchange for Mutual Benefit and Common Development”, the 10th CISMEF set up 5,135 booths, attracting 2,852 enterprises and institutions, including 4,035 booths for 2,410 domestic enterprises and 1,100 booths for 442 overseas enterprises, registered a total transaction volume of 39.563 billion yuan, including a volume of 7.643 billion yuan under contracts and a volume of 31.92 billion yuan under letters of intent, attracted 265,000 visits, including 147,000 visitors and 118,000 professional buyers. 528 journalists of 267 domestic and overseas media outlets reported the event.
The co-host country (organization)–the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs of the Republic of Indonesia and United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation attached great importance to the 10th CISMEF. The 10th CISMEF was the third time that CISMEF was co-hosted with ASEAN countries after Thailand and Vietnam, which enhanced CISMEF’s influence in ASEAN and broadened exchanges and cooperation; co-hosting with an international organization for the first time deepened exchanges and cooperation between CISMEF and international economic organizations, and broadened CISMEF’s field of products and services for global SMEs.
Syarief Hassan, Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs of the Republic of Indonesia, led 61 enterprises to the 10th CISMEF, with a total exhibition area of 2,178 square meters. The Indonesian delegation organized SMEs in industries like costume & jewelry, handicraft, furniture, consumer goods and food for the exhibition, the pavilion characteristic of Indonesia delivered cultural presentations and art performances, attracting a lot of professional purchasers and visitors. Through the 10th CISMEF, Indonesia met the expectation of presenting its featured products, publicizing Indonesian culture, and promoting the development and utilization of Indonesia’s tourism resources, and pledged to come back next year.
Syarief Hassan, Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs of the Republic of Indonesia and Zhou Yiping, Director of the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation led the delegations to the 10th CISMEF. John William Ashe, President of the 68th United Nations General Assembly, sent video congratulations. Under the theme of “south-south cooperation”, the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation organized 93 enterprises in industries like handicraft, chemical, jewelry, woodwork and food from workstations in countries like Japan, Thailand, Nigeria, Zambia, Uganda and Kenya for the exhibition, with an exhibition area of 1,000 square meters. The 10th CISMEF popularized the theme of “south-south cooperation”, promoted technical and property cooperation and exchanges among SMEs in south-south developing countries, and pushed forward the industrial transformation and upgrading of SMEs in south-south developing countries.
The 10th CISMEF attracted a total of 442 overseas enterprises from 35 countries and regions (including the EU) such as Indonesia, Pakistan, Malaysia and Canada,etc. Among ASEMmembers, 19 countries (organizations) sent enterprises for the fair; 11 presentations of overseas exhibition delegations were delivered, attracting over 1,500 merchants, purchasers and professional buyers for face to face negotiations, thus promoting exchanges and cooperation between exhibitors and merchants, trade and investment between countries (regions); 27 matchmaking activities were delivered for Chinese and foreign enterprises, attracting 2,785 participants.
Hosted by National Development and Reform Commission, State Administration for Industry and Commerce, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Commerce, China Banking Regulatory Commission and the Government of Guangdong Province, the 3rd CISMEF was held from Sept. 15th to 18th, 2006. With the State Council’s approval, the fair changed its name from “China SME Fair” to “China International SME Fair”, and would always be held in Guangzhou. With an exhibition area of 110,000 square meters, 5,110 booths and 3,970 SMEs from home and abroad, the 3rd CISMEF attracted 210,000 Chinese and foreign visitors.
Italy, as the second co-host country, sent the biggest delegation with influential companies among all participating countries. Italian exhibition area was 12,000 square meters, with 1,622 delegation members and 788 exhibiting companies from a wide range of industries. It was the first time that a single overseas fair could attract so many Italian enterprises. Nearly 400 Italian companies and more than 1,000 Chinese enterprises participated in the Sino-Italian business matchmaking and held discussions. Many companies reached intent of cooperation and agreements on technology introduction, agency, industrial chain cooperation and other aspects.
China and Italy also co-held the China-Italy SME Forum with “SMEs: Innovation creates the future” as the theme, in which China’s then Vice Premier Zeng Peiyan and Italian then Prime Minister Romano Prodi attended the forum and delivered speeches. During the fair, the People’s Government of Guangdong Province and the Italian Confederation of Industrialists signed a memorandum on strengthening SME cooperation; Credit Guarantee Association of Guangdong Province and the Credit Guarantee Department of Italian SME Association signed an agreement to promote the international cooperation between Italian and the Guangdong credit guarantee agencies; a Sino-Itylian high profile level forum themed “IPR for SME development” was held. Besides, Italy organized 10 seminars centering on SME development, such as “Sino-Italian industry and regional industrial cooperation”.
The then Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi led senior officials such as International Trade and European Policies Minister, Infrastructure Minister, Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Deputy Minister of the Cabinet Publishing Industry, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Minister of International Trade and European Policy to attend the fair. Many big-name Italian companies like Ferrari and the “World Cup” were exhibited in the fair. As for the big size of the delegation and high level of present officials, it was unprecedented.
